Crossing Cultures

'One Day'

Alexandria, Bristol, Cairo

A photographic project

The event took place from Midnight to Midnight on  9th-10th October 2005.

Young people involved with the project in Alexandria, Bristol and Cairo were given one use cameras for 24 hours, the resulting photographs were then shared between schools in each country and exhibited as a slideshow on a TV and as prints at the final Art Gym Gallery show in Bristol.

  • You are about to be involved in a very special and important day as part of the Egypt/UK, British Council 'Crossing Cultures' project. All the students and some of the artists and teachers in Cairo Alexandria and Bristol will be taking part in the same thing on the same day in both countries!

  •  On Friday 7th October you will need to come to the art department to pick up a single use camera from  at ............ in room..........

  • The project begins at 12 midnight on Sunday 9th October and finishes at 12 midnight on Monday 10th October, 24 hours to complete your creative project.

  • During that day you will be able to take photos of anything you want to, as interesting, normal, creative, abstract, detailed, serious as you want to, it's up to you. All we ask is that you take one photo at 12 midday and one at 6pm for a 'snapshot in time'  but otherwise it's up to you. Remember you only have 27 exposures on your camera, when the film is finished it's finished!

  •   On Tuesday 11th October please return the camera to Mr Jones and we will arrange to have the film processed and disks made. At a later date we will be exchanging photos with the Egyptian schools and we will all be able to see the final images from all three places.

We will let your parents/carers and staff at Hengrove know you are involved

Please ask Heather or Mr Jones if you have any questions about anything.

Good Luck and have a great time!
